Platinum ore is characterized by hard rock, high silica, chromium/sulfide content, fine platinum group metals intercalation, and associated nickel and copper. The crushing production line must take into account the need for more crushing and less grinding, stable particle size, wear resistance and durability, iron removal protection, and compatibility with subsequent flotation. The mainstream approach is a two-stage closed-circuit or three-stage closed-circuit system, which is a key pre-processing step in platinum group metals beneficiation.
The three-stage closed-circuit process enables “more crushing and less grinding,” improving the recovery rate of platinum group metals. It provides a stable and controllable feed particle size of 8–16 mm, ensuring uniform particle size distribution and avoiding large, difficult-to-grind particles and excessive fine mud. Compared to two-stage crushing, the grinding system’s power consumption is reduced by 16%–22%, and steel ball wear is reduced by 12%. Mineral liberation is improved, increasing the overall recovery rate of platinum group metals in flotation by 2.5%–4%.
The complete set includes a fully enclosed belt conveyor, a pulse bag filter system, a PLC centralized electrical control system, a vibration damping foundation, and a buffer silo to meet South African mining environmental regulations.
